A/C condenser fan issues

Post by Hotinohio » Tue Jun 14, 2016 11:41 pm

I have been beating my head against a rock trying to figure this out. When I turn on the A/C, the fan kicks on as it should. After several minutes, the fan slowly comes to a stop. The condenser is still working, but the fan won't run. If the system is turned off for a while, then restarted, the same thing happens. I have changed the capacitor, and tried another (used) fan motor. Same result.

Please help! Getting hot out here!

Your fan issue, I will assume, is with the indoor air handler fan. Try setting the thermostat to Fan-ON, not Fan-Auto. Does the fan still die after several minutes?

Look to see if there is still current draw, this will help you to determine if it is an electrical or mechanical issue. When the fan slows down and stops, will it still spin freely?
