What do you need advice about? If the proposed 3 ton, 13 SEER is also R-22, you should be OK.

The higher the SEER, the more energy-efficient the condenser. HOWEVER, if you have a 13 SEER condenser with your older, most likely 10 SEER evaporator coil, you will be closer to an 11 or 12 SEER system. It's all good and better than what you had before so you should save on electricity but maybe not very much.

Mr Freon last July had a problem with a 3 ton r22- 10 seer straight cool condenser.First contractor told me the compressor shorted.I called another mechanic to determine the problem. He found two charred wires on the terminals inside the junction box near the compressor. The unit worked since. Now it is noisy. If a contractor replace the outside unit with a 3 ton r22 13 seer, will he change the orifice in the air handler? The inside unit is a 3 ton 10 seer, and seven years old.
Thanks for your response. These techs talk a lot.

Usually there's no need to change the orifice in the indoor evaporator coil. Make sure you get a new filter/dryer. If the old compressor burnt out. you may need to change the orifice only because it is clogged with debris.

I would also have a sight glass added (about $25) so you can tell how low your refrigerant is.
