Postby LadyTazKoch » Mon Jun 08, 2015 8:53 pm

We are about to move into my in-laws old house. It has a Lennox G20 series furnace.
I would like to know where the furnace filters are located. Is there more than one filter?
Please show picture of location, as the description in the furnace book does not show.
Can anyonw help?
Thank you

Check the return air grilles, where the air returns (goes into) to the furnace. The returns are usually in a hall or in individual rooms. They are usually much larger in size than supply registers (air out into the rooms). Some grilles have filters, most do not. If you do not have filter grilles then read on.

Google Lennox G20 series furnace

You will see pdf files for the service manual. The filter is inside the blower compartment. The following i from the pdf -

G20E and G20X series units are equipped with reusable
filters which should be inspected monthly and cleaned
when necessary to assure proper furnace operation. See
table 1 for filter sizes. Use the following procedure to
clean filter.
1- Turn off electric power to furnace.
2- Remove blower access panel. Wait for blower to stop.
3- Remove filter by sliding up and out of filter brackets.
4- Wash filter with water and a mild detergent. For in-
creased efficiency, filter media should be sprayed
with filter Handicoater when dry. Filter Handicoater is
RP products no. 418 and is available as Lennox part
no. P-8-5069.
NOTE-If filter media must be replaced, order Lennox
part no. P-9-7831 for 20” x 25 ” filter, P-8-7822 for 16”
x 25” filter, 97H0601 for 18” x 25” filter, 97H0701 for
25” x25” filter, and 97H0801 for 24” x 30” filter.
5- Reinstall filter. Slide filter into top bracket and drop
into lower bracket.
NOTE-Do not replace reusable foam filters with
throw-away filters.
6- Replace blower access pane

Does this mean there are two filters in the furnace?
One on the side at the bottom of furnace (normal filter) and one higher up, behind the blower motor?
Could you attach a picture of where the filter is suppose to be *inside the blower compartment?
Thank you

There will be only 1 filter in the furnace. If you open the blower compartment, the filter should be visible. I do not have a picture.

If you have filter grilles in the rooms where there are furnace air returns, then there may be no filter in the furnace and the filter(s) will be in the filter grilles. You can tell a filter grill by the 2 latches at the top that allow the face of the grille to open exposing the filter. Filter grilles are not common but a possibility that I feel I should mention.
