Sealing collar flange to rigid duct board

Postby RunningLow » Sat Jul 18, 2015 10:23 am

1) Sealing collars with corrugated flange - TO rigid duct board, should foil tape be used 1st, bridging across flange & duct board?
Then apply mastic over the tape & filling gaps?

* Or just use mastic to seal the flange to duct board?
In either case, always embed mesh tape in the mastic, or not necessary?

1) On start collars with dampers - do you only push the flex liner on the collar, till it touches the damper shaft?
Then tape?

Thanks.

Use mastic to seal the flange to duct board and embed mesh tape in the mastic.

The flex liner (plastic) will need aluminum tape so you'll need at least 2" before the damper for the tape. Slide the insulation over the tape joint up to the damper.
