can i use a 50/5 370 v in lieu of current 50+3 uf 370 v

NO!! Get the exact same microfarad rating. The voltage can be 370 or 440 volt

You're welcome. The reason is both the compressor and condenser fan motor are PSC motors. Their values, as stated on the motor shell, for horsepower and rotations per minute (RPM), are directly affected by the run capacitor value. The wrong micro-farad value can cause a motor to possibly burn out much earlier than normal or to not give you the stated power for your system.

In a pinch you can get away with a 50/5 on a 50/3 system but only for a very short time. I would also double-check that the capacitor you are replacing is original and not a replacement from a repair tech. Some repair techs are lazy and will replace the run capacitor with what's in their truck and not what the manufacturer specifies.
