Heat pump blower screams when starting

Postby jayhawkjoe » Tue Nov 15, 2016 10:26 am

We bought our house in May and this is the first time we're using the heat. It's a heat pump system and sometimes when the blower starts, there's a screaming/almost electronic sound. It lasts anywhere from 2-5 seconds and varies in pitch and doesn't happen every time. Scares the crap out of us when it does it in the middle of the night. Any thoughts as to what it could be?

Likely separate problem, when the a/c is on there's occasionally a throbbing-like sound.

The sellers provided an HVAC tune-up receipt before we purchased and we had the house inspected, but I'm questioning how thorough they were. Both air and heat perform as expected, we're just getting more noise than we'd like.

Thanks experts.

Check if the blower is a belt driven system. It is possible the noise is the belt slipping. Tell us the make and model of the air handler.
