Swap 1.5 ton Compressors

Postby 1Singlephaseme1 » Wed Nov 02, 2016 10:56 am

Greetings All, New here so, I may make a few mistakes until I figure out how this forum operates. It's bee a LONG while since I did a/c installations so, I have a question or two.

Below is the unit in question which is now in operation at a friends home after his condenser failed.

Is it possible to retrieve the refrigerant (R-22) from inside his condenser in the manner I want to try? Let me explain below.

*******************************************************
Gibson 1.5 ton
straight cool
single phase 220vac
R-22
*******************************************************
*At time of new installation;
outside ambient temp ............approx 83* degrees
suction low side temp..............+/- 75#lbs 46* degrees
liquid high side pressure........approx +/- 115# 65* degrees

*******************************************************
PLEASE look at readings (from memory since my friend lost my figures) and indicate if I am either HIGH or LOW in charge.

The NEW unit data plate does not indicate much on this.

********************************************************
His OLD condenser has "22" left in it behind his "king" valves and the unit is currently disconnected with his new unit in place and running. What i wish to do is bend and solder closed the liquid and suction lines and have the unit's (R-22 also) suction side connected up to the NEW unit's suction side and feed the 22 left behind into the NEW condenser, as I think i may be low on charge. Is this feasible? Think of it as the old compressor being a "jug" and the NEW compressor pulling refrigerant from it.

Thanks for your assistance.
